INTEGRATED RISK MAPPING
Description
A method for integrated risk mapping in water-constrained economies has been developed, with the Júcar River Basin as case study. Droughts are classified into different severity classes (moderate, severe and extreme droughts). The resulting drought risk maps combine hazard and vulnerability components. Maps are produced for different temporal scales, distinguishing different types of droughts: agricultural, meteorological, hydrological drought.
(Potential) Categories of users
Water authorities, water resource managers, local authorities
(Potential) applications to decision making in the water sector:
Integrated risk mapping can be used to increase the capability of water-constrained economies to operate in case of drought and to adapt to future droughts.

Added value of this modelling approach/model/results
The methodology allows the mapping and analysis of different categories and kinds of droughts under present and future climate.
What decision can be improved with this modelling approach:
Alternative water compensation arrangements, optimal planting decisions, water restrictions for certain sectors in case of severe drought.
