FRIDA - FRAMEWORK FOR INDEX-BASED DROUGHT ANALYSIS
Description
XFRIDA generates an index that represents drought conditions for a basin. It does so by combining all relevant available information about the water circulating in the system, identified through an advanced machine learning algorithm (feature extraction algorithm). The tool has been tested for the Lake Como in Italy and the Jucar River Basin in Spain.
(Potential) Categories of users
Water authorities, water resource managers, local authorities
(Potential) applications to decision making in the water sector:
Comprehensive analysis of drought conditions based on a synthesis of versatile available information.

Added value of this modelling approach/model/results
FRIDA can analyse future drought trends under climate change scenarios.
What decision can be improved with this modelling approach:
The index can inform the operations of the lake and river systems under drought conditions.
